Foundry pattern, sand casting and precision casting

The production process of casting ranks as the original process. Thereby it is presumed to be the oldest moulding process. With casting, a hard body with a specific shape results from the fluid material after setting.

The fine cast process is used in order to obtain pressed material with the highest accuracy grade and the best surface quality. The design model is manufactured from special waxes or similar thermoplasts or their compounds for example in the injection moulding process.

With sand casting, a design model (e.g. made from wood, metal or burned clay) is moulded in sand (as moulding material), the design model removed and the remaining cavity casted with molten metal.
